Glowworm

I’ve added a project that I finished a few months ago and finally got around to taking photos of:

The Glowworm is an object that can be worn in many ways. It is commonly worn around the neck, similar to a scarf or a tie. It can also be worn around the waist, arm, or in your hair.

When the two silver parts of the Glowworm are touching, it will emit a soft glow. The battery is small and easily replaceable, and is held in by a magnet located at one end of the Glowworm.

I will be producing these in small batches, and I plan to begin selling them shortly after I relaunch my shop. It will be available in dark, earthy colors. I’m aiming to have the shop completed by July 2011. More pictures are available under the Textiles section, here is a link.

A Few Site Updates

Over the past day or so, I’ve been making a few changes to the main portfolio section of the site. I’ve made it a bit less cluttered and removed most of lightbox. It’s now a bit easier to see the description for each piece as well. Individual pieces can now also be linked to, and they will expand automatically (ex. this link will take you to the Ribcage Bag.)

I’ve added the Hybridization project to the main site, and updated a few images for the Gloomy Skirt that I took a few months ago. I plan to update a few more images with better ones as well over the next few days or so. I’m also going to be taking and uploading videos for a few of the projects.

As for things to come, I’m going to be working on the shop section of the website over the next month or so. I want to change a few things and make it easier to use.

Men’s Dress Shirt Workshop

Did a workshop today with Jill Harrop at school. We used men’s dress shirts and transformed them into new clothing. It was a ton of fun to do, and I really enjoyed working this way. I worked on these with a classmate. The above photos are my favorite. I’m going to be sewing this into an actual dress.
The ones below are some more that I really enjoyed making.

This/Last Month

I haven’t had much time to work on anything, I had a tonsilectomy last month and this month I’m kind of busy. My last flameworking class for this semester is today.

I’ve been recycling beer bottles and making them into glasses. It’s been interesting. I just started using a vinyl cutter to make a pattern for the glasses so that I can sandblast a design into them. Hopefully I’ll have a set of them in the shop by the end of the month.

As of September, I’ll have access to a textile studio so I can work on screenprinted things (I wanted to make aprons and t-shirts and stuff like that).

Scarves and Scarfettes

Here’s some of the scarves I’ve been making this week. I’m still working on olive, light blue, orange, black and red ones. I’ll probably just add them to the shop when I’m done.

They’re made with wool and silk, and dyed with kool aid. I’ve had a ton of fun making them. I love the texture.
