Muscle Wire Class on February 12th, 2014

Hey everyone! I’m going to be teaching a muscle wire class at Site3 on February 12th, 2014. Here’s a short description of the class:

Muscle wire is a shape memory alloy. When a current is applied to it, it will contract and bend into a pre-defined shape. Students will learn how to use Flexinol (a type of muscle wire) with their Arduino projects to create movement. Muscle wire is especially useful for those interested in creating movement in their wearable projects, as it is lightweight. In this class, you will learn how to shape Flexinol wire, the best ways to implement Flexinol into a project, and how to use it in combination with an Arduino.

You do not need to know much about Arduino to take this class. Basic Arduino code will be provided, and the instructor can help with any issues that arise.

If you don’t have much experience with Arduino, it’s okay. I can go over the basics with you, and I provide a sketch for the program that will control the muscle wire. You’ll need to bring a laptop along with you.

The class costs $50.00 if you already own an Arduino, or $80.00 if I need to get one for you. The class runs from 7-10pm. You can register at the following link:
